Red Cross Requests Volunteers Due to Impending Storms

With doom and gloom forecasts for North Texas and much of the Midwest on Tuesday and throughout the week, the American Red Cross is requesting volunteers to sign up in advance of the storms.

The Red Cross is preparing communities across the area for what AccuWeather is saying could be “the largest tornado outbreak so far this year“. Over 2 million people are at risk for severe storms tomorrow which could include threatening thunderstorms, large hail and tornadoes. As always we encourage you to be Red Cross Ready: Get a Kit, Make a Plan and Be Prepared.

If you live in Texas and haven’t bought or packed your emergency preparedness kit, check out this link to find out how to get supplies tax-free (ending April 25) and what you should have in your go-bag.

Once you secure your family’s emergency plan, we urge you to consider the gift of your time. Texas has been pummeled by disaster after disaster, and volunteers are greatly needed at this time. If our area is affected by the predicted storms, we will need volunteers to be able to staff shelters, distribute food and provide relief services to those in need. Training will be provided on site.

If you would be interested in helping, you can sign up to volunteer here: http://www.redcross.org/local/northtexas/volunteer.

If you are a current Red Cross volunteer, we ask you to update your disaster responder availability in Volunteer Connection.
